What's Heaven Like?

According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, “Heaven, the Father's house, is the true homeland toward which we are heading and to which, already, we belong” (No. 2802).

It also says that, “To live in heaven is “to be with Christ.” The elect live “in Christ,” but they retain, or rather find, their true identity, their own name” ( No. 1025).

And “heaven is the ultimate end and fulfillment of the deepest human longings, the state of supreme, definitive happiness” (No. 1024). It says nothing about angels or gates or clouds. But those items feature heavily in the answers we got when we asked students at Catholic schools what heaven is like.

But so did the items mentioned in the catechism: Heaven is a home, where God is, where people will be happy forever.

These pages include some of their answers in words and pictures.

  • I think heaven is a loving and peaceful land. I picture it with doves, flowers and angels. I think when you’re in heaven, you’ll probably see some people from your family that might have passed away. Heaven is like the nicest place in the world because there’s nothing that will happen. There won’t be any fighting, accidents or people getting their feelings hurt. That’s what I think of heaven.

  • I think heaven is a nice place where God is always with you, where everything is good and nothing bad ever happens. It is like a home for everyone where you would always take care of God. You would obey what he says. There would be different kinds of clothes and different kinds of food. Heaven would be very, very nice.

  • 1. Heaven feels like my home.
    2. Heaven feels like my mom and dad.
    3. Heaven feels like my brothers and sisters.
    4. Heaven feels like my 30 books.

  • I think heaven is like puffy clouds, and God’s castle is white and beautiful and he treats everyone with respect and kindness. Every single saint has wings and the angels, too. But the people who died in heaven don’t have wings. The place is like Chicago except in the sky and more beautiful. Everyone has special food because it’s heaven and they’ve been good, but no junk food, healthy food. Everyone has a good life and always obeys God.

  • Heaven is a “place” or “state of being” where you can do nothing but walk around to nowhere. It must be gigantic and weird walking on clouds.

  • I think that heaven looks like clouds, white, and people with wings and angels. I think the people in my family that are up there are my big cousin, my grandpas and my greatgrandmas and grandpas. The angels are looking down at us and watching us and taking care of us. I think heaven is a place for people who believe in Jesus and serve Jesus.

  • I think heaven is a place where good people go when their time is up on earth. But on heaven it is like a new life. I think God and all the saints will be there. I think on heaven there is no bad stuff, only good stuff. Nothing bad happens in heaven. I think heaven is a nice peaceful place.

  • Heaven will be full of angels because God shares his house with everyone. God will be there, with Mary, Jesus and the angel Gabriel. When you’ll be going inside the gates, God will be there to hug you. He’ll have your room ready and the food will be served.

  • I think heaven is a place of love and peace with God and others. It is also a place to be with people that we love.

  • I think heaven is like nice flowers. God is there to greet you to heaven, like in a classroom the teacher greets you. Heaven to me is like clouds all over, and you can finally see the people that you missed, like my grandparents. And angels.

  • I think heaven is a lot of clouds with Peter at the Golden Doors with a book that says good deeds you did. I think God is there, Mary, Joseph, Jesus, Peter and Jesus’ disciples, Mother Teresa and others. I think they have flowers and doves. I think heaven has all kinds of restaurants and you can eat any time you want. There is no violence, bad language, and no SINNING. You are standing on clouds.

  • Heaven is to me a wonderful place where you do what you want. You can run all day and not get tired. That’s what I think heaven is.

  • I think heaven is a place where God lives and is watching everything we do. They say when people die they go with God in heaven. I don’t know the answer, but I think that’s it. You go to heaven to confess your sins and bad stuff you did. So treat God like your best best best friend. When you go to his home, you love him because he’s like your father. So respect him a lot and treat his home very nicely. Never say bad words.
