Parishioners of St. Joseph’s (Libertyville) ask for neither paper nor plastic at the supermart. Their OurEarth- Stewardship Committee sells reusable cloth bags for $10 each that are made from recycled plastic pop bottles. Each bag shows a blue world globe graphic and the parish’s name. Something completely different — Don G a u s went on a pilgrimage and ret u r n e d wanting to reserve a part of his home as a place for prayer. He’s a wood-worker, so he ended up making himself a fold-up kneeler, or prie-dieu (pray to God). He’s been making them for others ever since, in eight different wood stains, with velvet and non-velvet multihued pads. They are all hand-crafted by Gaus and cost $210 + $30 for shipping and handling. He also makes wood-based prayer cushions at $40, for kneeling on the floor, + $10 for shipping/ handling. He’s in Allison Park, Pa., and you can reach him at (412) 366-2914 or go to his Web site, at www.kneeler.com.
