Fr. Casimir J. Kozien

PASTOR EMERITUS

Father Casimir J. Kozien, 84, pastor emeritus of St. Dionysius Parish in Cicero, died on Feb. 4 in Niles.

The Chicago native was baptized at St. John Cantius Parish and graduated from Quigley Preparatory Seminary (1943) and from University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary (1950).

Father Kozien was ordained May 3, 1950 and named assistant pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish (1950-1962). He next served as associate pastor of St. Pancratius Parish (1962- 1967).

He also served as assistant pastor of the South Side’s St. Joseph Parish (1967- 1971), St. Michael’s (1971- 1976), and St. Ladislaus Parish (1976-1978). In June 1978, he became pastor of St. Dionysius Parish in Cicero, serving for 10 years before becoming associate pastor of St. Bartholomew Parish. He later retired as a resident priest until he moved to St. Benedict Home in 2004.

Father Kozien is survived by a sister, Laura Szarek.

Sr. Patricia Collins

HOMEMAKER

Sister Patricia Collins (Marjean), 70, died Jan. 24 in Milwaukee. She was received into the School Sisters of St. Francis June 13, 1956.

Sister Patricia ministered as a homemaker and in the staff/assessment center at Alverno College, Milwaukee.

In the Archdiocese of Chicago, she served as homemaker and in the school office at St. Benedict Convent, Chicago (1959-1988).

Fr. Richard J. Ehrens

PASTOR EMERITUS

Father Richard J. Ehrens, 76, died Jan. 31 in Arlington Heights.

He graduated from Quigley Preparatory Seminary in 1950 and the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary in 1958.

Father Ehrens was ordained April 12, 1958 and was named assistant pastor of St. George Parish. He served as assistant pastor at St. James Parish in Chicago (1959-1962) before teaching at Quigley South Preparatory Seminary (1962-1970). He was a resident at St. Leo Parish and assistant pastor of St. Kilian Parish.

He served as pastor of St. Malachy Parish and then as archdiocesan vicar for Catholic education while also serving as associate pastor of Chicago’s St. Teresa of Avila Parish. He was named pastor of Our Lady of the Wayside Parish in Arlington Heights (1983-1989) and later served as associate pastor of Chicago’s St. Eugene Parish (1989-1995) and at St. Rosalie Parish in Harwood Heights (1995-2001). He retired and was named pastor emeritus of Our Lady of the Wayside Parish in late 2001.

Prior to his hospitalization, he lived at Addolorata Villa in Wheeling.

A sister, Roberta Gridley of Deerfield, survives him.

Sr. Helen Schulteis

TEACHER, DIRECTOR

Sister Helen Schulteis (Aloysiana) died Jan. 22 in Campbellsport, Wis.

She was received into the School Sisters of St. Francis June 13, 1936 and ministered as a catechist, teacher and development director and curriculum director in Wisconsin, Illinois, Mississippi and Nebraska.

In the Archdiocese of Chicago, Sister Helen taught at St. Bernardine School in Forest Park (1947- 1949), at St. Peter School in Skokie (1949-1953) and at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Glenview (1958-1959).

Sister Patricia is survived by her sister, Mary Jean Collins.
