One of the things that the Catholic Church shares with the newspaper business is the importance of the Word. It takes more than just talent and ability to be able to write, edit and create a Catholic newspaper, let alone a front-page personal column, edition after edition, year after year. It takes heart, it takes soul and it takes grace.

The Catholic New World has been fortunate to have an editor and general manager for the past nine years who has melded his own words, along with his heart and soul, with those of his church in a faithful, positive and often joyous manner.

Tom Sheridan, who has chosen to write the next chapter of his life away from Chicago’s cruel winters and nearer to his family and friends in Florida, will not only be missed by his readers and his incredibly talented staff at The Catholic New World, but by all of his colleagues and friends throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago.

Although we have all heard and probably used the axiom, “No one is irreplaceable,” perhaps Tom Sheridan comes closest of all to being the exception.
