Sister Therese Banach is a Chicago native whose home parish was St. Nicholas of Tolentine. She devoted her ministry to teaching and work as a librarian. She served at St. Anthony, Cicero; Immaculate Conception; Providence of God; and St. Norbert. She now is at Villa Joseph Marie High School, Holland, Penn.

Sister Lucille Ann Bandyk devoted her religious life to teaching and administration. She served at Maria High School and other Chicago-area schools and in New Mexico, Minnesota and Michigan. She now is an administrative assistant at Maria High School.

50 Years

Sister Christine Biskupski lived in Chicago and entered religious life from her home parish, St. Clement. She devoted her ministry to retreat services and served at the Longwood Cenacle and Fullerton Parkway Cenacle, where she now lives in retirement.

Sister Dolores Brand devoted her ministry to prayer enrollment, retreat and administrative work. She served at the Longwood Cenacle and now lives at the Resurrection Life Center.

Sister Helen Donahoe lived in Chicago and entered religious life from St. Clement, her home parish. She devoted her ministry to retreats, spiritual direction, formation work and administration. She served as a resident councilor on the Provincial Council of the North American Province from the Cenacle on Fullerton Parkway, where she still is assigned.

Sister Mary Jennings devoted her religious life to retreat work and religious education. She served at the Cenacle on Fullerton Parkway and now lives at the Cenacle Retreat House, Warrenville, Ill.

Sister Kathleen (Marie Aquin) Buechele is a Chicago native whose home parish was St. Carthage. She devoted her ministry to teaching, administration and work as a pastoral associate. Sister Margaret (Patrick Clare) Foley is a Chicago native whose home parish was St. Sabina. She ministered as a teacher, library assistant and school secretary. Sister Arlene (Ann Marita) Kosmatka dedicated her religious life to teaching and bilingual training for directors of religious education. She served at Maternity BVM. She now serves as a retreat/spiritual director in Plymouth, Mich.

Janet (Christine Thomas) Kubiak devoted her religious life to teaching and counseling for educational financial aid. She served at St. Matthew, St. Denis and Queen of Apostles. She now does prayer and presence in Avoca, Mich.

Sister Frances (Frances Dernine) Madigan is a Chicago native whose home parish was St. Laurence. She ministered in teaching, administration and parish ministry, which she now is doing at St. Jude Parish, Boca Raton, Fla.

Sister Carolyn (angelita) Nelson is a Chicago native. She dedicated her ministry to work as a teacher, principal, director of religious education, pastoral associate and provincial administration. She served at St. Mary, Star of the Sea; St. Dominic Provincial House, St. Patrick, and St. Charles. She now serves as pastoral associate, St. Owen Parish, Birmingham, Mich.

Sister Mary (clare patrick) Nugent is a Chicago native whose home parish was St. Theodore. She devoted her religious life to work as a teacher, principal, academic dean and high school and parish secretary. She served at Fenwick High School; Regina Dominican High School; St. Mary, Riverside; and in Hinsdale, Ill. She now serves as parish secretary at St. Mary Parish in Riverside.

Sister Diane (Helen George) Odette devoted her religious life to work as a teacher, principal and administrator. She served at Our Lady of Loretto and in Detroit, where she now is principal of St. Matthew School.

Sister Joan McVeigh grew up in St. Gertrude Parish. She devoted her ministry to teaching and counseling and served at Holy Angels. She now is teaching at Harold Washington College, Chicago.

Sister Mary Agna Barth dedicated her religious life to teaching. She served at Epiphany and St. Luke, River Forest. She also worked in Rockford and now lives at Sinsinawa Mound, Wis., and sings in the choir.

Sister Dorice Suchowski is a Chicago native whose home parish was St. Genevieve. She served as a teacher, sacristan and pastoral minister. She worked at Trinity High School, River Forest, and in Wisconsin and Texas. She now lives at the Sinsinawa motherhouse and works in alumni resources for Bishop Lynch High School.

60 Years

Sister Leona Haggerty ministered as a teacher, administrator, pastoral counselor and social worker, including time as a counselor at the archdiocese’s Pastoral Center. She also worked in Ottawa, Bloomington and Peoria, Ill., and in Wisconsin, South Dakota and Nebraska. She now lives at Sinsinawa Mound, Wis.

Sister Mary (Lucas) McLemore devoted her religious life to teaching and religious education. She served at St. Philip Benizi, St. Brendan, St. Barnabas, St. Sabina and Immaculate Conception and in Texas and New Jersey. She lives at St. Dominic Villa, Sinsinawa, Wis.

Sister Mary Elizabeth (Caelan) O’Hara is a Chicago native whose home parish is Visitation. She taught at St. Giles, Oak Park, and in Wyoming and Wisconsin. She is sewing room director at the motherhouse in Sinsinawa, Wis.

Sister Joan Mary (Marinus) Baldridge is a Chicago-area native whose home parish was Immaculate Conception, Waukegan. She ministered in teaching and administration and served at Immaculate Conception and Sts. Faith, Hope and Charity; Winnetka. She also worked in New Jersey and New York.

Sister Anne Marie (Innocentia) Friedrich dedicated her ministry to health care, education and administration. She served at St. Basil and Visitation and Sts. Faith, Hope and Charity; Winnetka. She was co-founder and business manager of DePorres Health Center and now is a fiscal assistant at the University of Mississippi in West Jackson Family Medical Center, Jackson, Miss.

Sister Catherine (Jules) Meyering is a native of River Forest whose home parish was St. Catherine of Siena. She dedicated her ministry to teaching and served at Trinity High School.

Sister Jean C. Murray is a native of Oak Park whose home parish was St. Luke, River Forest. She devoted her ministry to teaching and served as president of Rosary College, now known as Dominican University, and was an associate professor of French.

Sister Mary Jo (Mary Bernardus) Schofield is a native of Oak Lawn who dedicated her ministry to teaching. She served at St. Basil, St. Richard, St. Cajetan, St. Gerald, and St. Catherine of Alexandria where she now serves as a member of the professional staff.

Sister Barbara (Adelia) Tilkens dedicated her religious life to parish ministry, chaplaincy, teaching and administration. She served at Chicago’s Visitation and in Peoria, Ill., Wisconsin, Minnesota, New Jersey, Montana, Alabama and Iowa. She now serves as a chaplain at Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire, Wis.

Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate, Joliet

50 years

Sister Marcelyn Adams devoted her religious life to education and administration. She served at St. Procopius and now is an administrative aide at Guardian Angel Home, Joliet.

Sister Christian Gilgen is a Chicago native who devoted her ministry to nursing and administration. She served at St. Francis de Sales, Ewing Avenue, and now works at Our Lady of Angels, Joliet, where she handles the medical records of the sister residents.

Sister Pauline Schutz is a Chicago native whose home parish was St. Pascal. She devoted her religious life to pastoral work and now is a pastoral associate at St. Pius X, Lombard.

40 years

Sister Mary Lou Marchetti devoted her ministry to pastoral work. She served at St. Clement; St. Ann, Lansing; Ford City Catholic Center; Sarah’s Circle; and Immaculate Conception (North Park). She now is a chaplain at Vista Care Hospice, Scottsdale, Ariz.

Sister Alice Emile Schacht is a Lemont native whose home parish was St. Patrick. She devoted her religious life to nursing and served at St. Francis de Sales on Ewing Avenue and St. Procopius Convent. She now is at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, Joliet.

Sister Yvonne Weidner is a Palatine native whose home parish was St. Mary, Des Plaines. She dedicated her ministry to education and administration and served at St. Ann, Lansing; St. Pascal, and St. Procopius Convent. She now is administrator of Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, Joliet.

Felician Sisters

Sister Stella Marie Benben is a Chicago native whose home parish was SS. Peter & Paul. She devoted her religious life to administrative duties and work as a teacher and principal. She served at St. James, Holy Rosary, St. Joseph High School, Good Counsel High School, Our Lady of Good Counsel Infirmary, Marian Care Center and Our Lady of the Angels, where she now lives and does clerical assistance and prayer ministry. She also worked in Wisconsin.

Sister Miriam Kontny devoted her religious life to teaching and work as an organist. She served at Holy Innocents; St. Wenceslaus; St. Turibius; St. Isidore, Blue Island; Sacred Heart; and in Wisconsin and France. She now lives at Our Lady of the Angels and serves in prayer ministry.

Sister Mary Anisia Ciemiega is a Chicago native whose home parish was St. Helen. She dedicated her religious life to work as a teacher, principal and library aide. She served at Holy Innocents, St. Bronislava, SS. Peter & Paul, St. Wenceslaus, St. Joseph, St. James, St. Damian, St. John of God, Sacred Heart, Our Lady of Ransom and Good Counsel High School, where she now serves as a library aide. Sister Mary Sebastia Dzwierzynski is a Chicago native whose home parish was St. John of God. She dedicated her religious life to education and health care. She served at SS. Peter & Paul; Sacred Heart; St. Bruno; St. Bronislava; St. Andrew Home, Niles; Holy Name of Mary; as an aide at the cardinal’s residence; Marian Care Center and Our Lady of the Angels, where she cares for the aged. She also worked in Peoria and Rockford, Ill., and in Wisconsin.

Sister Mary Joseph Kroll is a Chicago native whose home parish was St. Mary Magdalene. She devoted her religious life to work as a teacher and librarian. She served at Holy Innocents; St. Joseph; SS. Peter & Paul; St. Turibius; St. James; Our Lady of the Gardens; St. Helen; St. Bronislava; St. Mary Magdalene; Good Counsel High School; St. Isidore, Blue Island; Incarnation; in Rockford and LaSalle, Ill., and in Texas, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Alabama. She now works as an aide at Our Lady of the Angels Convent, Chicago.

Sister Mary Lourdine Lachowski devoted her religious life to education. She served at St. Helen; St. Joseph; St. Bruno; St. Wenceslaus; Ascension, Evanston; Holy Innocents; St. Linus; and Our Lady of Ransom, where she now is teaching. She also worked in LaSalle, Ill.

Sister Mary Madeleine Nowak dedicated her religious life to education. She served at St. Bronislava; St. James; Psycho-Educational Center; St. Hubert; St. Joseph; St. John of God; St. Turibius; Holy Innocents; St. Andrew Convent, Niles; in Joliet and Peoria, Ill., and in Wisconsin and Minnesota. She now is a patient visitor at Our Lady of the Angels, Chicago.

Sister Paul Marie Pietroczynski is a Chicago native whose home parish was Holy Innocents. She devoted her ministry to work as a teacher, principal and supervisor of schools. She served at St. Bruno, St. Turibius, St. Bronislava, St. Mary Magdalene, St. Hedwig Orphanage, Our Lady of the Gardens, Sacred Heart, St. Wenceslaus, St. Joseph and Our Lady of Ransom, where she works as a tutor. She also served in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Sister Mary Virginia Sztorc is a Chicago native whose home parish was St. Wenceslaus. She devoted her religious life to work as a teacher, librarian, activity director and in child care. She served at St. Helen, St. Joseph on Paulina St., St. Joseph High School, St. John of God, Our Lady of Ransom, Mother of Good Counsel, at the community’s provincialate; in Wisconsin and Minnesota, and in Rome. She now serves as a chauffeur and takes care of car maintenance and the “Garden of Memories” at the Mother of Good Counsel Provincialate, Blessed Virgin Convent.

Sister Mary Clare Brunkala is a Chicago native whose home parish was St. Stanislaus Bishop & Martyr. She minstered as a teacher, nurse, sacristan and driver. She served at Mother Theresa Home and Our Lady of Victory, Lemont, and St. Joseph Home. She now lives at Our Lady of Victory Convent, Lemont.

Sister Mary Francine Labus is a Chicago native. She devoted her ministry to teaching, administration and serving as general councilor, mission effectiveness director and general vicar of her congregation. She served at St. Stanislaus Bishop & Martyr, St. Pancratius, Five Holy Martyrs and was a member of the archdiocese’s principal interview team. She now lives at Our Lady of Victory Convent, Lemont.

Sister Mary Monica Sendlosky devoted her ministry to teaching, community administration and work as a librarian. She served at Five Holy Martyrs and Madonna High School. She now lives at Madonna Convent, Chicago.

Sister Dativa (Vincent de Paul) Belleweg devoted part of her religious life to teaching at St. James School, Arlington Heights.

Sister Mary Agnes (Roynelle) Fleckenstein dedicated her ministry to teaching and served at St. Joseph, Waukegan. She now tutors at Montini Elementary School, McHenry.

Sister Ruth (Corda) Hoerig dedicated part of her religious life to teaching at Our Lady of Victory.

Sister Barbara Forster dedicated her religious life to education, administration and working with young people in challenging situations. She served at St. William and Alvernia High School. She worked with young women under the guardianship of the Department of Children and Families in Cook County; as an educational liaison at Maryville Academy, and as director of Maryville’s Stepping Stones independent living program. She now is a clinical supervisor for the Teen Parent Service Network, Uhlich Children’s Home.

Sister Rose Marie Garvey is a Chicago native whose home parish was St. Matthew. She dedicated her religious life to education, counseling, pastoral work and work as an art curator. Sister Brendan Harvey devoted her religious life to teaching, special education, social services and work as a writer and author. She served at Our Lady of Mercy and St. Athanasius, and worked for the New World, the predecessor of The Catholic New World. She co-authored a reading workbook and “The Story of Anne Therese,” a child’s book, tape and coloring book about the early life of Blessed Mother Theodore Guerin, foundress of the Sisters of Providence of St. Mary-of-the-Woods. She also served in Indiana and Missouri. She now ministers as director of Providence Food Pantry, West Terre Haute, Ind.

Sister Agnes Veronica Hester dedicated her ministry to education. She served at Our Lady of Sorrows, St. Mark and in Galesburg, Ill., Indiana and Peru. She now ministers in prayer at St. Mary-of-the-Woods.

Sister Beatrice (Mary Canice) Hoberg is a Chicago native whose home parish was St. Frances of Rome. She devoted her religious life to education, administration, music composition and work as an author. She served at St. Angela, St. Athanasius, Mother Theodore Guerin High School, Providence High School; in Aurora and New Lenox, Ill., and in California and Indiana. She co-authored “The Story of Anne Therese,” a child’s book, tape and a coloring book about the early life of Blessed Mother Theodore Guerin, the congregation’s foundress. She also co-authored the “To God Through Music” series, along with a reading workbook. She now is a staff member in residential services at St. Mary-of-the-Woods.

Sister Catherine (Agatha) Livers dedicated her religious life to education, administration and pastoral ministry. She served at Our Lady of Sorrows, St. Mel, in Joliet and Peoria, Ill; and in Kentucky, New York, Indiana, Maryland and North Carolina. She now ministers as a volunteer at St. Ann Clinic, Terre Haute, Ind., and with the ministry of care program at St. Mary-of-the-Woods.

Sister Alma Louise Mescher has devoted her religious life to education and pastoral ministry. She served at Marywood High School, in Galesburg and Charleston, Ill.; and in California and Indiana. She now works as a professor of biology at St. Mary-of-the-Woods.

Sister Patricia Geis is a Chicago native whose home parish was St. Mark. She dedicated her ministry to teaching and administration. She served at Immaculate Conception; St. Agnes; St. Cornelius; St. Francis Xavier, Wilmette; Our Lady of Hope, St. Zachary, Santa Maria Del Popolo, Mount St. Joseph, and as director of St. Columbkille Day Nursery. She also served in Lockport and Joliet, Ill., and in Indiana, California and North Dakota.

Sister Cecilia (Mary Cecilia) Carter dedicated her religious life to teaching and administration. She served at St. Andrew and St. Mel-Holy Ghost and in Indiana, Maryland and California. She also served as a provincial councilor at St. Michael Province House and now ministers in community service at St. Mary-of-the-Woods.

Sister Rose Virgina Eichman devoted her religious life to teaching, administration and health care. She served at St. Andrew, St. Angela and St. Mel. She also served in Galesburg and New Albany, Ill., and in Indiana and Texas.

Sister Elizabeth (Ellen Ann) Grannan devoted her ministry to teaching, social services and pastoral care. She served at St. David and St. Mel-Holy Ghost and worked in Indiana and Maryland. She now ministers as a chaplain at St. Paul’s Retirement Community, South Bend, Ind.

Sister Mary Ann McCauley dedicated her ministry to nursing and teaching. She served at St. Sylvester, St. Genevieve, St. Thaddeus and Mother Theodore Guerin High School. She also worked in Indiana and North Carolina and now serves as a registered nurse on the oncology staff at Community Hospital South, Indianapolis.

Sister Jane Marie Osterholt dedicated her ministry to education and pastoral work. She served at MacNeal Memorial Hospital, Berwyn; St. Cyprian, and St. Luke. She also served as a leadership formation consultant in the religious education office for the Diocese of Joliet and was a writer, consultant and speaker for Harcourt Religion Publishers. She now is associate director of religious education at St. John Parish, Loogootee, Ind.

Sister Therese Whitsett devoted her religious life to education. She served at Maternity BVM and in Indiana, North Dakota and Peru. She now is an instructor at the Hispanic Education Center, Indianapolis.

Sister Mary Alice (Joseph Gertrude) Zander is a Chicago native whose home parish was St. Andrew. She devoted her ministry to teaching and administration. She served at Our Lady of Mercy, St. Andrew, St. Domitilla, St. Bernadette, St. Fabian, and was the religious education consultant for the Office of Catholic Education for the Archdiocese of Chicago. She also was the formation director for the Sisters of Providence.

Sister Nancy Bartasavich devoted her religious life to teaching, youth ministry and counseling. She taught at Maternity BVM School, was a counselor at Maternity BVM Community Center and also served in California.

Sister Judith Birgen ministered in parish work, social care and youth ministry at Maternity BVM. She also served as a social worker, supervisor and program director for the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Catholic Charities and was director of community relations for Interfaith Center for the Homeless.

Sister Maureen Fallon is a Chicago native whose home parish was St. Eugene. She dedicated her religious life to teaching and served at Maternity BVM, Mother Theodore Guerin High School, and Notre Dame High School for Girls. She also served in California.

Sister Miriam Patrick Cummings is a Chicago native whose home parish was St. Barnabas. She devoted her ministry to teaching and administration. She worked at St. Benedict and Lake Shore Catholic Academy in Waukegan, where she now serves as principal.

Sister Lori Keen is a Chicago native whose home parish was St. Alphonsus. She devoted her religious life to education, administration and work as a pastoral associate at St. Odilo. She now serves as a teacher and the director of the Adult Education Center and the Ministry of Care coordinator at Presentation Parish.

Sister Dorothy Kunze is a Chicago native whose home parish was St. Alphonsus. She dedicated her religious life to teaching, administration and work as a provincial secretary. She served at St. John de La Salle, St. Benedict and at the Provincial House in Berwyn. She now serves as provincial secretary and bookkeeper and lives in Des Plaines.
