St. Stanislaus is unique in many ways. The village, 19 miles south of the Loop, was named Posen, because its population was heavily Polish and the first elected mayor in 1900 was the pastor!
Todays church and carillon tower are also unusualfuturistic and circular designed by James R. Cronin, completed in 1969. Unobstructed semi-circular seating for 900 worshippers is rimmed in modern stained glass clerestory windows.
Two objets dart, the Risen Christ over the altar and St. Stanislaus, both by world famous contemporary artist Richard Orski of Zakopane, Poland, are points of pride.
On Lenten Fridays traditional Gorzkie Zale services are sung, and an image of Our Lady of Guadalupe has been added to enhance the fervor of Hispanic parishioners.
A busy school and social center are an integral part of this community of faith, where everyone knows their neighbor and many are actually related.
