Faith, family, tradition, rootednessis the spirit and mortar
of this Jefferson Park parish celebrating 75 years on April 21.
The youthfulness of its patron saint, Tarcissus, Christendoms
Martyr of the Eucharist, is celebrated in the artistry of this
contemporary-style church designed by Pirola and Erbach, dedicated
by Cardinal Stritch in 1954. A series of stained glass windows
that frame the marble altars reredos continue the theme with
symbols of our Lords passion and the Eucharist.
Tall, slender stained glass windows in bold colors flank both
sides of the nave, depicting youthful saints and saints who dedicated
their lives to caring for children. The buildings decorative
white stone facade, with another likeness of young Tarcissus,
is an area landmark.
The parish continues to attract second- and third-generation youngsters
of founding families to its thriving elementary school.
