Turn On... Tune In
If its true, as pop-culture icon Andy Warhol maintained, that
each of us is allotted 15 minutes of fame (or what passes these
days for fame), Im several quarter-hours ahead of myself.
Thats because of the encouraging response that has been afforded
to Catholic Community of Faith, the new archdiocesan radio show
on WYPA, 820AM.
The showco-hosted by Father Greg Sakowicz and your humble servant,
mehas for several weeks explored fascinating issues about the
church in Chicago, held conversations with several people deeply
involved in the aspects of faith and, in general, had a great
ol time talking about God and other things.
CCF is broadcast on the station which for the last few years was
the local outlet for Catholic Family Radio. Though that effort
failed financially, the station here in Chicago will be available
for archdiocesan use for at least several more months. Through
the cooperation of WYPA general manager John Bitting, weve begun
to bring live Catholic radio to Chicago.
The Catholic New World, as the primary vehicle providing stories
of faith, and about the faith, to Catholics in Chicago, has had
a strong role in the radio show. Were nothing, I suppose, if
were not multi-media these days.
Sakowicz, of course, is a broadcasting veteran, having worked
in both TV and radio, often serving as host for the archdioceses
Sanctuary TV program, a regular offering through Channel 7,
WLS-TV, and other programs. Not to be outdone, Id better concede
that I, too, have done more than a smattering of radio and TV
in almost 30 years in Chicago media. Just wanted you to know youre
not dealing with a bunch of rank amateurs here. OK, amateurs;
just not rank ones.
But enough bragging. Take my word for it: the show is pretty interesting.
Tune in and see for yourself. Well make it even easier on you:
beginning this week, you can hear Catholic radio live in Chicago
Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Give it a listen: at 9 a.m. on WYPA, 820AM. Well be talking about
evangelization, the upcoming posada events and have an Advent
reflection from Father Robert Barron of Mundelein Seminary. And
a whole lot more.
Ace Catholic New World columnist Dolores Madlener will also be
a weekly regular.
