St. Nicholas of Tolentine (3741 W. 62nd St,) kicked off its 2016/17 school year with a red carpet event. Teachers arrived in a stretch limo and joined students in walking the red carpet into the school. They received a blessing from the pastor before Jim Rigg, superintendent ran the ceremonial bell signaling the start of classes.
Maureen Keane, BSJ member, interviews seventh grader Ayden Mercado about what's in his backpack on the first day of school. The staff and faculty simulated the red-carpet opening of a media event with a limo, a red carpet and papparazzi.
