Pope Benedict named Chicago Auxiliary Bishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller to be the new archbishop of the Archdiocese of San Antonio on Oct. 14. This slide show is a brief look back at the bishop's seven-year tenure here in Chicago.
Bishop Garcia-Siller comforts the Berrera children, Manuel, 6, Evelyn, 4, and Jessica, 2. Their mother, Leticia, was killed by gunfire on her 32nd birthday Oct. 31, 2007, while she took her children trick-or-treating for Halloween. The bishop approached the three youngsters after they sang a song to honor their mother during a wake service at St. Michael the Archangel Church 4821 S. Damen, Nov. 6, 2007. Barrera was four months pregnant when she was killed.
