Father Augustus Tolton attended St. Peter Catholic School in Quincy, Ill., as a boy. This statue was commissioned for the centennial of his death in 1997 and stands in front of the school building. The first St. Peter School opened in 1861. It was located south of the church and was staffed by the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
