Hundreds of students from elementary and high schools in the Archdiocese of Chicigo gathered Feb. 26 in Holy Name Cathedral for the annual service, which was planned by a committee of high school students. This year's theme was, "We Are Different Because We Are One." During the service, school superintendent Jim Rigg gave the African-American Heritage Award to Bobbie Hicks, 92, the first African-American lay teacher in the archdiocese's Catholic schools.
Father David A. Jones, Archbishop Cupich's liaison to the Black Catholic Initiative, joined hundreds of students from archdiocesan Catholic schools on Feb. 26 at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago to celebrate Black History Month with a special prayer service.
