Sr. Hilary Dailey
Teacher

Sinsinawa Dominican Sister Hilary Dailey, 88, died July 9.

Born in Rockford, Ill., she was one of six children. She made her first profession of vows in 1941, and her final profession in 1944. She served as a primary and intermediate teacher for 55 years in several states.

In the Archdiocese of Chicago, she taught at St. Sabina School, 1941-42; St. Mary School, Evanston, 1950-55; and St. Luke School, River Forest, 1955-57.


Sr. Vincentius Zimmer
teacher

Sinsinawa Dominican Sister Vincentius Zimmer, 82, died July 2.

Born in Washington D.C., she was one of three children.

She made her first profession of vows in 1945, and her final profession in 1948. She served as an elementary teacher and principal for 28 years. In the Archdiocese of Chicago, she served as a secretary at Visitation School, 1974-75, and as a reading tutor at St. Basil School, 1980-89.


Sr. M. Remegius Fennell
Teacher

Sister of Mercy Mary Remegius Fennell, 90, died May 6.

A Chicago native, she had been a Sister of Mercy for 70 years.

She served as a teacher in Illinois and Wisconsin. Schools at which she ministered include St. Thomas Aquinas; St. Joachim; St. Mary, Lake Forest; St. Mary, Streator; St. Malachy; Precious Blood; St. Patrick, McHenry; St. Ethelreda; Resurrection; St. Catherine of Genoa; Marquette High School; and Mother McAuley High School. She retired in 1982.


Fr. Edward Borkowski
missioned to india


Divine Word Missionary Father Edward Borkowski, 88, died June 22. A Chicago native, he joined the Society of the Divine Word at St. Mary’s Seminary, Techny, in 1931.


After his ordination, he was missioned to the Sambalpur and Indore provinces in India where he worked as pastor, diocesan consultor and superintendent of schools. In 1954, malaria forced him to return to Techny. He worked in the Mission Office for five years. From 1961-85, he worked out west. In 1985 he returned to Chicago and worked as assistant pastor at St. Joseph, Summit, until he retired to Techny in 1993.


Fr. Eugene Rochford
Taught in Paraguay

Divine Word Missionary Father Eugene Rochford, 57, died June 14. He had worked in the Province Center in Techny in the finance department doing budgets, payroll and computer trouble-shooting since 2001. On weekends he celebrated Mass in Spanish at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Wheeling.

Born in Independence, Iowa, he trained for the priesthood at Divine Word Seminary, East Troy, Wis., in 1962. He was ordained in Tecnhy in 1975 by his cousin, Bishop Justin Driscoll of the Diocese of Fargo, North Dakota.

He worked as a teacher and administrator in Paraguay at the Society of the Divine Word Escuela Agricola from 1975-93. From 1994-97, he worked at the headquarters in Rome as assistant to the treasurer general.


Sr. Gertrude Roethle
Educator


School Sister of St. Francis Gertrude Lucentia Roethle, 87, died May 8.

Born in Rubicon, Wis., she entered the School Sisters of St. Francis in 1935 and made her profession of vows in 1937. She ministered in the field of education.

In the Archdiocese of Chicago, she served as a teacher at Our Lady of Victory School, 1936-48.

She served as the U.S. Province formation ministry assistant for the School Sisters from 1987-89.


Sr. Barbara Ann Stiglitz
Teacher

Adrian Dominican Sister Barbara Ann (Ruth Mary) Stiglitz, 88, died July 4.

Born in Detroit, she was in the 71st year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation. She spent 48 years ministering in education in several states and in Puerto Rico. She taught music for 23 of those years. In the Archdiocese of Chicago, she taught at St. Clare Montefalco, 1942-43; and at Ascension, Harvey, 1960-63.

She retired in 1981. She is survived by several cousins.


Sr. M. Eugenia Schenk
Teacher

Sister of Christian Charity Bernice Eugenia Schenk, 79, died June 17.

Born in Detroit, she entered the congregation in 1940. She made her first vows in 1934, and her final vows in 1949.
In the Archdiocese of Chicago, she taught at St. Aloysius, 1944-49; St. Gregory School, 1949-50; St. Isaac Jogues, Niles, 1968-70; and St. Teresa School, 1980.


Sr. Katharine Forsyth
Educator

Sister of Charity BVM Katharine Forsyth, 98, died July 3.

Born in Atlantic, Iowa, she was one of nine children. She entered the congregation in 1923, professed her first vows in 1925, and her final vows in 1931.

In the Archdiocese of Chicago, she taught at Immaculata High School, 1925-42; St. Mary High School, 1942-43; and Mundelein College, 1945-63 and 1969-75. She also served in the Alumnae Office at Mundelein.


Sr. Emma Bublauskas
Principal/Teacher

Sister of St. Casimir Emma Bublauskas, 94, died June 30.

Born in Brighton, Mass., Sister Bublauskas served as a principal and educator on both primary and secondary levels. In the Chicago Archdiocese she taught at St. Anthony, Cicero; St. George; St. Michael; Immaculate Conception; Providence of God; St. Casimir, Chicago Heights; St.Joseph; and St. Casimir Academy. She also served as general secretary of her congregation. Her sister, Alice Kent, of Oakbrook, survives.
