Our Lady of Hope Church
9711 W. Devon Ave., Rosemont
When its first church needed $250,000 in repairs in 1986, a new $1.8 million edifice was built cost-free by selling off 5.5 acres of the parishs valuable 7.5 acre plot. The design by architect David Hasselhofer is simple, with 14 rows of seating in a semi-circle around the altar. Textured brick walls and a Prairie School style make a fitting background for todays liturgy at the long mahogany altar. Adult and childrens choirs are accompanied on a rich-toned, rebuilt pipe organ. Parishioners come from Rosemont and parts of Park Ridge and Des Plaines, in a mix of generations and ethnic backgrounds. Because of its proximity to hotels, convention centers and OHare Airport, hospitality is a strong effort here where tourists and visitors are made welcome. A Soup and Scripture luncheon program draws workers from nearby corporate offices each Lent and Hope Fest is a summer tradition.
