In this issue:
Cardinal George:
With you, I pray that the year of grace 2003 will be less troubled for the Church and the world than was 2002. But troubled or not, 2003 will be a year of grace. How could it be otherwise? Our savior is born, and we are members of his body, the Church.

After Law, Boston moves on
In his first homily as apostolic administrator of the Boston Archdiocese, Auxiliary Bishop Richard G. Lennon addressed the clergy abuse crisis several times, speaking candidly about the dismay and disappointment, frustration and anger felt by Catholics.
Year in review
Shortly after the clerical sexual abuse scandal hit the front pages of the Boston Globe, the Archdiocese of Chicago responded by publishing its own policy for dealing with sexual abuse by priests- much updated and improved since originally written in 1992- as a special section in The Catholic New World issue of March 17.

The innkeepers tale: Just a one- star hotel
A different time, but the same place (at least traditionally). Pope John Paul II paid a quiet visit in June, 2001, to the grotto beneath the Church of the Nativity, celebrated as the place of Jesus birth and where Yacob the Innkeeper labored.
Observations by Tom Sheridan
No time for miracles? Maybe this isnt a particularly good time to be talking about the miracle of Christmas. And for lots of reasons.
