This charming, homey church that seats 350 rose out of the ashes of its predecessor, destroyed by a fire in 1959.
One of the old church bells still tolls at noon and 6 p.m. from the low tower. Urban, right at the sidewalk line, made of brick, wood and stone with an arched entrance, it was designed by Fox and Fox and dedicated in 1963. Its Hispanic style pays homage to its patron, the wry and wonderful Spanish Teresa. Her feast each October brings standing room only to a bi-lingual Mass and a luncheon with an award given yearly to dedicated parishioners.
This contemporary edifice with a simple interior and no vaulted ceiling, seems to take people to its heart. Spirituality and charity are core values here.
A new parish hall, to be dedicated Feb. 16, will be used for social events and meetings, but will also be a place to serve dinners to the homeless and to maintain a food panty for the needy.
