Streamwood parish breaks ground
St. John the Evangelist Parish in Streamwood will celebrate the groundbreaking for its new church and administration space April 22. Choirs will provide a prelude beginning at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. The groundbreaking will take place after the Mass. Auxiliary Bishop Gerald Kicanas will attend. The parish has been planning for a new church since the 1994 fire that destroyed the parish center and part of the school.

World Mission Institute scheduled
Interreligious dialogue and practice will be the focus of the World Mission Institute April 26-28 at the Lutheran School of Theology in Hyde Park. The institute is co-sponsored by the Chicago Center for Global Ministries, the Bernardin Center at Catholic Theological Union and the Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions. Retired Auxiliary Bishop Timothy Lyne, chair of the Council of Religious Leaders of Metropolitan Chicago, will speak about Cardinal Joseph Bernardin’s “interreligious pilgrimage.” The institute is free and open to the public. Catholic Charities hosts job fair
Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago will host a job fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 28 at its Near North facility, St. Vincent’s Center, 721 N. LaSalle St. Participating agencies include Maryville Academy, St. Joseph’s Carondelet, Misericordia, St. Coletta’s of Illinois, Boys/Girls Hope of Illinois and Catholic Charities. Positions are available in many fields, including foster care case management, direct child care and rehabilitation. For more information, call (312) 655-7291.

St. James Hospital to hold seminar
Jesuit Father Britto Joseph will present a seminar about Bach flower essences April 27-29 at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights. Joseph, of the Living Water Foundation, says the flower essences can help people in “responding to unbalances in our way of looking at and coping with life.” Cost is $120 per person.
