Parishioners of St. Ferdinand Parish, 5900 W. Barry, marked the annual Feast of Corpus Christi with a procession through the parish neighborhood on May 25. Many European and Hispanic cultures customarily honor this feast with public eucharistic processions like this one.
Father Jason Torba, pastor of St. Ferdinand Parish, stops along the procession route at a temporary altar. Corpus Christi processions, where Catholics make a walk through streets following a priest carrying a monstrance, are common customs in ethnic communities. This procession was in one of Chicago's Polish communities.
