Polish Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz, archbishop of Krakow, spent three days making pastoral visits to Chicago’s Poles June 27-29. As a friend and long-time personal secretary to their beloved Pope John Paul II, Cardinal Dziwisz came to Chicago as a guest of Cardinal Francis George and Auxiliary Bishop Thomas Paprocki, the liaison to Polish people in Chicago.
Cardinal Dziwisz receives the Caritas Christi Award for service to Polonia from Cardinal George at the conclusion of his visit during the Abramowicz Seminary banquet. The name of the award is taken from the Latin version of the episcopal motto of the late Bishop Alfred Abramowicz, auxiliary bishop of Chicago. The motto was " Caritas Christi urget me, " (The love of Christ impels us) which is adapted from St. Paul's Second Letter to the Corinthians.
