The Order of Friar Servants of Mary, the Servites, celebrated their 775th anniversary as a religious order at Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica on June 12. One of the five original Catholic mendicant orders, the Servites were founded in 1233. They came to the United States in the 1850s and have called Chicago home since 1874. Dedicated to fraternity, hospitality and service to others, the Servites are inspired by the life and example of Mary and moved by her example of openness, compassion and hope.
