More than 200,000 people were expected to visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Des Plaines for the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas, on Dec. 11-12. The celebration is the largest of its kind outside of Mexico.
Torch runners from Our Lady of Mercy Parish were the first to arrive at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Des Plaines on Dec. 11. Torch runners from area parishes ran to the shrine to light their torches and then ran back to the parishes for morning services.
