Fr. Francis Kaucky

PASTOR, HOSPITAL CHAPLAIN

Father Francis M. Kaucky, pastor emeritus of St. Fabian Parish in Bridgeview, died Aug. 18 at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn. He was 76 and was living in Tinley Park while serving as a weekend associate at St. Damian Parish in Oak Forest.

A Chicago native, Father Kaucky attended Nativity of Our Lord and St. Roman elementary schools before graduating from Archbishop Quigley Preparatory Seminary and the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary. He was ordained in 1959.

Father Kaucky served at St. Benedict Parish (Irving Park) for six years and then at St. Leonard Parish, Berwyn, for four years. He was the assistant pastor at St. Albert the Great, Oak Lawn (1969- 73); at Our Lady of Loretto, Hometown (1973-79); and for a year at St. Francis Xavier, La- Grange. He was named pastor of St. Fabian Parish, Bridgeview, in 1980 and there for four years.

In 1985, Father Kaucky began nine years of service as chaplain at Palos Community Hospital in Palos Heights, while also serving as assistant pastor at St. Symphorosa Parish.

For nine years beginning in 1994, Father Kaucky was the associate pastor at St. Damian Parish, Oak Forest. Father Kaucky retired from active ministry in 2003 and was named pastor emeritus of St. Fabian Parish.

He is survived by three brothers: Charles Jr., Edward and John Kaucky; and a sister, Catherine Miller.

Sr. Mary Therese Janke

TEACHER

Sinsinawa Dominican Sister Mary Therese (Marie Carmel) Janke, 91, died July 26 in Sinsinawa, Wis.

A South Dakota native, she entered the congregation in 1936. She served in several states in addition to Illinois, as well as Cochabamba, Bolivia.

In the Archdiocese of Chicago, Sister Mary Therese taught at St. Basil (1937-41).
