Fr. Henry Michalek

PASTOR EMERITUS

Father Henry Michalek, pastor emeritus of St. William Parish, 2600 N. Sayre Ave., died Nov. 4, in Chicago. He was 90 years old.

A Chicago native, Father Michalek was baptized at the now-closed St. John of God Parish on Chicago’s South Side. He attended St. John of God Elementary School, Quigley (North) Preparatory Seminary, and the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary.

He was ordained a priest in 1943 and served for five months as associate pastor of St. Priscilla Parish, 6949 W. Addison St., before a sixyear assignment as associate pastor of the now-closed St. Stephen Parish on the city’s West Side.

In 1949, Father Michalek was named associate pastor of St. Helen Parish, 2315 W. Augusta Blvd., where he remained until being named associate pastor of Five Holy Martyrs Parish, 4327 S. Richmond St., in 1957.

In June 1966, he became associate pastor of St. Joseph Parish, Summit. He remained there until April 1969, when he was named pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish on Chicago’s South Side. He became pastor of St. William Parish in July 1976. He held this position for 12 years before retiring and becoming pastor emeritus in June 1988.

Fr. Justin Paul Bartoszek

Passionist Father Justin Paul Bartoszek, 72, died unexpectedly in Korea on Oct. 19.

Father Bartoszek, a Chicago native, attended St. Casimir School, Quigley and Mundelein Seminary, before graduating from St. Norbert College and Marquette University. He joined the Passionists in 1959 and was ordained in 1964. He was assigned to minister in Korea from 1965 until his death. During his time in Korea, he served as a retreat director, novice master, viceprovincial, student director, spiritual director, preacher and superior. A traditional Korean funeral and burial were held for him. He is survived by a brother, Edward, and sisters Mary Sutkowski and Sophie Michor.

Sr. M. Allan Savolt

TEACHER, LIBRARIAN

School Sister of St. Francis M. Allan (Albric) Savolt, 94, died Nov. 2.

A Chicago native, Sister Allan was a teacher, librarian, office clerk, and volunteer in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Illinois.

In the Archdiocese of Chicago, Sister Allan taught at Our Lady of Victory School (1942-1943); St. Joseph School in Wilmette (1945- 1947); St. Benedict Grade School (1947-1954 and 1957-1958); and St. William School (1959- 1969). She served as librarian and teacher at Von Humboldt School in Chicago (1971-1980), as librarian at Swift School in Chicago (1980-1984) and as an office clerk at Science Research Association in Chicago (1985-1987). She also spent many years as a visitor with older adults in Chicago.

Sr. M. Antonette Feldhake

HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

Dominican Sister M. Antonette Feldhake, 81, of Springfield, died Nov. 5, at the Dominican Sisters Motherhouse in Springfield, Ill.

Over her lifetime, she shared her gifts teaching and administering at Our Lady of Grace in Chicago and Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, where she served as principal from 1966-75.

She also served in Springfield, Sainte Marie and Litchfield, Ill., and in Hammond, La.,

“My purpose and greatest challenge in life is to learn and to live in a way that will make Christ come alive and be real for others,” Sister Antonette once wrote. She is survived by her sister, Ruth.
