Parish Pride

St. James the Apostle
5730 W. Fullerton Ave.

It seems fitting Georgian Colonial architecture was chosen in 1970 when architect Chester Tobolski designed this house of worship.

Like the architecture of St. Mary of the Lake Seminary, it has the mark of New World, not Old.

Like America, this parish is multi-ethnic. Its liturgies are in three languages, as is the Sacrament of Reconciliation, its informative Sunday bulletins, and the telephone answering machine. Universal here is their shared faith, sense of community, and religious fervor.

There are beautiful artistic expressions in the sanctuary area of devotion to the Divine Mercy, Our Lady of Czestochowa and Our Lady of Guadalupe.

This Northwest Side parish in the Hanson Park area began in 1914 when Benedict XV was pope. The original Polish parishioners witnessed WWI and beyond. Today all groups find expression whether in prayer or in “fiesta.”
