Our Lady of Grace Church
2450 N. Ridgeway Ave., Chicago
This parish flies on two wings of grace. One is the 10 per cent of “old timers” whose patrimony goes back 30 or 40 years. The other is the 90 per cent, arrivals from the 1970s to the present, from places like Mexico, Puerto Rico, Guatemala and other countries. A constant has been the ministry of the Springfield Dominican sisters in its school since 1910.
The present magnificent edifice (with a grotto-like lower chapel), designed by McCarthy, Smith & Eppig, dedicated in 1935, was built despite the Great Depression. That spirit of survival is here today.
A new summer Festival of Grace was initiated to attract young parish leadership. The parish's traditional international flavor will be reflected once again in Taste of Grace, 4-7 p.m. Oct. 7, in the school hall, 2446 N. Ridgeway, with homemade foods from around the world. This parish looks to the future with faith and song.
