St. Vincent Ferrer Church
7600 North Avenue, River Forest
Whether through a virtual tour of St. Vincent’s via their Web site, a stop for daily Mass at noon, or eucharistic adoration Mondays through Wednesdays, one can learn a great deal about Christendom here.
The Catholic Church has used religious symbols, mosaics, statues or stained glass through the ages to teach holy stories. This grey stone English Gothic edifice, dedicated in 1954, has all the above. Two magnificent rose windows and more than 30 other stained glass windows depict the mysteries of the rosary and Dominican saint heroes. Visitors could make a study of just the statuary, from St. Dominic (who received the rosary from Our Lady) to patron St. Vincent Ferrer, the 14th century Dominican missionary.
Liturgies here are enhanced with sound homilies, music from a Kilgen pipe organ and great acoustics for singing. Parishioners strive to fulfill their mission statement: to build a Christian community on the Dominican tradition of dignity and truth.
