Church of the Holy Spirit
1451 W. Bode Road, Schaumburg
This was never a sleepy parish. It has been alive and growing since ground was broken in 1974 for the one-story contemporary 7,600 square-foot worship space. That edifice has since been connected with a new multi-purpose ministry center on the original seven acres.
Registered families have increased to almost 3,000 bringing a blend of ethnicities. Can there ever be “something for everyone” in a parish? Maybe. Spirited liturgies; five choirs, some with orchestral accompaniment; a youth ensemble; spiritual and social programs for varied ages and circumstances; adult formation and enrichment; and religious education for youngsters is a good start. Nine diaconate couples (three Spanish-speaking), more than 150 parishioners having completed a lay ministry program and creative volunteers contribute to making things happen.
While its Web site has attracted newcomers “shopping” for a parish, this welcoming faith community keeps them coming back.
