Sr. Lucia Bayerl

Teacher, Principal

School Sister of St. Francis Lucia Bayerl, 91, died Oct. 6 in Hudson, Wis. She entered the congregation in 1935, and served as a teacher, principal and librarian in Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota and Iowa.

Sr. Louis Marie Konczyk

Teacher, Principal

School Sister of St. Francis Louis Marie Konczyk, 81, died Oct. 9 at St. Joseph Convent in Campbellsport, Wis. Born in Minnesota, Sister Louis Marie entered the congregation in 1950, and served as a teacher, principal, parish minister and secretary in Illinois, New York, California and Nevada. In the Archdiocese of Chicago, she taught at Holy Angels School (1953-64), St. Matthias School (1964-65) and Alvernia High School (1965-68). She also served at Providence-St. Mel High School as a teacher (1981-5), a secretary (1985-92) and assistant administrator (1992-97) and substitute teacher (1997-1979). She was coordinator of Alvernia Center in Chicago from 1979-81.

Sr. Rita Gaul

School Sister of St. Francis Rita (Nicola) Gaul, 86, died Oct. 6 in Hudson, Wis. Born in Iowa, Sister Rita entered the congregation in 1939. She served as a teacher, principal and care provider for the elderly in Wisconsin, Illinois, Nebraska and Iowa. In the Archdiocese of Chicago, she taught at St. Nicholas of Tolentine School, 1942-47.

Vilbrun Colon

Father of Priest

Mr. Vilbrun Colon, father of Father Jackson Colon, of Sacred Heart Parish, Melrose Park, died Oct. 8. Mr. Colon was buried at Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Hinche, Haiti on Oct. 21.

Sr. Joan Marie Sullivan

Teacher, Principal

Dominican Sister Joan Marie (Edmund Marie) Sullivan, 84, died Oct. 10 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Mich. Born in New York, she entered the congregation in 1940. Sister Joan spent 44 years ministering in education in Ohio, Illinois, Arizona, New Mexico and Michigan. In Chicago, she was principal of Queen of Angels School 1956-59.

Sr. Louise Friedel

Educator, principal

BVM Sister Louise (Norma) Friedel, 98, died Oct. 13 at Caritas Center, Dubuque, Iowa. Born in Iowa, she entered the congregation in 1928. Sister Louise was a teacher, principal in Colorado, California, Illinois, Nebraska and Iowa, and served as secretary to the president of the BVM congregation. In Chicago, she served on the staff of Immaculata High School, and later resided at Our Lady of Lourdes Convent.

Fr. Steven Juda

Pastor, Teacher

Resurrectionist Father Steven Juda, 91, died Oct. 10 at Nazarethville, Des Plaines. Born in Chicago, he was a member of the congregation for 71 years. He was assigned to pastorates in Florida, Missouri, Alabama, Illinois and Canada. In the Archdiocese, Father Juda served as an associate pastor at St. John Cantius and St. Mary of the Angels parishes, chaplain at St. Joseph Home for the Aged, administrator at Annunciation Church and teacher at Gordon Tech High School.

Sr. Mary Roberta Badsing

Teacher

Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet Mary Roberta (Florence) Badsing, 90, died Oct. 1.

She entered the congregation in 1936, and taught and served in various ministries at St. Viator Parish for forty years.

Sr. Agnes Michael Ondik

Teacher, Nurse

Sister Agnes Michael (Cecilia) Ondik, 87, died Oct. 13 at the Dominican Life Center, Adrian, Mich. Born in Cleveland, she entered the congregation in 1934.

Sister Agnes Michael spent 30 years ministering in education in Illinois, Ohio, New Mexico and California. She was Superior at the Dominican Life Center from 1966-69 and a nurse from 1972-74.

She also served as a nurse in Arizona. In Chicago, she taught at St. Philip Neri (1935-36) and Queen of Angels (1938-39).
