Sr. Juliana Kelly

Administrator/Local Superior



Daughter of Charity Sister Juliana Kelly, 85, died Sept. 26 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Evansville, Ind. Born in Chicago, Sister Juliana entered the congregation in 1938. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education from Louisiana State University and her Master of Science in Psychiatric Nursing from Catholic University of America.

Sister Juliana served as an administrator, staff nurse, and unit supervisor in Louisiana, Wisconsin, Indiana and Illinois. She also served as local superior at St. Mary Hospital, Milwaukee and St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.

In Chicago, she served as an administrator at St. Joseph Hospital from 1981-86, and a full-time board member from 1986-87.



Sr. Merici O’Malley

Teacher



Dominican Sister Merici O’Malley, 94, died Sept. 22 at St. Dominic Villa, Sinsinawa, Wis. Born in Chicago, she entered the congregation in 1930. She was a primary school teacher for 47 years in Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois. In the Archdiocese of Chicago, Sr. Merici taught at Immaculate Conception, Chicago (1966-68), Queen of Peace High School, Burbank (1969-70); and St. Louis de Montfort, Oak Lawn (1970-79).



Fr. Robert Coleman Flaherty

Pastor, Prior



Carmelite Father Robert Coleman Flaherty, 89, died Sept. 28 at Edwards Hospital in Naperville. Born in Quincy, Mass., he was ordained in 1947. Father Flaherty served as a vocation director, house prior and treasurer and pastor in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Washington DC, and Illinois. In Illinois, he was house treasurer at the Carmelite Provincial House in Barrington.



Sr. Alice Clare Kuper

Educator



Sister of Providence Alice Clare (Mary Alice) Kuper, 87, died Sept. 30 at Mother Guerin Hall, St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind. Born in Indiana, she entered the congregation in 1936. Sister Alice Clare was an educator and taught in schools in Indiana, Illinois, Missouri and Massachusetts. In Chicago, she taught at Our Lady of Sorrows, St. Andrew, and Mother Theodore Guerin High School, River Grove. From 1975-2004, she served on the St. Mary-of-the-Woods infirmary staff, as Blessed Sacrament Chapel Sacristan and in residential services.



Sr. Glenna Carroll

Teacher, Photographer



Dominican Sister Glenna (Carlo) Carroll, 75, died Sept. 21 at Southwest Health Center, Platteville, Wis. Born in Appleton, Wis., She entered the congregation in 1955. She served as a primary and elementary school teacher for 20 years and worked as a photographer. In the Archdiocese of Chicago, she ministered in the business office at St. Thomas Apostle High School, 1975-80. From 1982-90, she had various ministries in the Chicago area, including working for J.S. Paluch Company and as director of a food pantry in Schiller Park.
