Sr. Anthia Kearns

Teacher, Principal

Dominican Sister Anthia Kearns, 98, died Aug. 21,at St. Dominic Villa, Sinsinawa, Wis. Born in Minneapolis, Minn., she entered the congregation in 1938. Sister Anthia was an elementary school teacher and principal for 31 years and a librarian for 19 years. In the Archdiocese of Chicago, Sr. Anthia taught at St. Sabina (1938-41) and St. Thomas Apostle (1960-61). She was principal and taught at St. Jarlath (1961-62) and was principal at St. Basil (1962-68).



Sr. Joan Petz

Dominican Sister Joan (Jerome Mary) Petz, 74, died at the Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Ga. Born in Detroit, she was in the 56th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation. Sister Joan spent 42 years ministering in education in Michigan, Illinois, Florida and Ohio. In Chicago, she served as a teacher at St. Columbanus School, 1951-57.

Fr. Francis Majewicz

Resurrectionist Father Francis Majewicz, 59, died Aug. 25 at Our Lady of Resurrection Medical Center, Chicago. Born in Wildflecken, Germany, he joined the congregation in 1974. Father Majewicz served as a faculty member at Archbishop Weber High School (1976-1999), Holy Cross High School, River Grove (1999-2004) and St. Martin de Porres High School, Waukegan (2004-2005). He was assigned as an associate pastor at St. Hyacinth Basilica in March 2006.



Sr. M. Eymard Corcoran

Mother General

PVMI Sister Mary Eymard Corcoran, 98, died September 10 in New York. Born in Co. Longford, Ireland, she entered the congregation in 1930. From 1951-63, Sister Mary Eymard served as Mother General at the Marycrest Motherhouse in Monroe, New York. In Chicago, she was local PVMI convent superior at St.?Clement Parish from 1969-72.

Sr. Marie Therese Creighton

educator

Dominican Sister Marie Therese (Louis James), 83, died at the Dominican Life Center, Adrian, Mich. Born in Detroit, she was in the 65th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation. Sister Marie Therese spent 40 years ministering in education in Illinois, Michigan and Puerto Rico. She also served as an executive secretary and translator at the Midwest Hispanic Catholic Community in Notre Dame, Ind, and coordinator of ministries at the University of Notre Dame.



Elaine Andrysiak

Teacher, Administrator

Elaine A. Andrysiak, 57, died Sept. 15 at her home in Oak Forest. Mrs. Andrysiak was a curriculum coordinator and member of the English department at Queen of Peace High School, Burbank for 24 years. She retired in Sept. 2003. Mrs. Andrysiak lived by the belief that the high school's faculty and staff should be examples for their students. She was honored with the Heart of the School Award in 2001 and the Queen of Peace Hall of Fame Award in 2004.



Sr. Clare Ginsbach

Teacher, Caretaker

Dominican Sister Clare Ginsbach, 96, died Aug. 27 at St. Dominic Villa, Sinsinawa, Wis. Born in Iowa, she entered the congregation in 1937. She was an elementary school teacher for 37 years, and also ministered as a child and elder care provider and pastoral associate. She served in Wisconsin, Colorado, Illinois, Oklahoma, Iowa, California, Oregon and Alabama. In the Archdiocese of Chicago, Sr. Clare taught at St. Giles, Oak Park, 1951-55, and St. Richard, Chicago 1959-64.



Sr. Veronica Wolff

Teacher, Principal

School Sister of St. Francis Veronica (Calis) Wolff, 105, died Sept. 20 at St. Joseph Convent in Campbellsport, Wis. Born in St. Henry, Neb., she entered the congregation in 1925. Sister Veronica served as a teacher, principal and librarian in Wisconsin, Illinois and Nebraska. In the Archdiocese of Chicago, Sister taught at St. Philomena School in Chicago, 1926-1931.



Sr. M. Josita Yomine

Teacher

Sister of St. Joseph M. Josita Yomine, 85, died Sept. 9 at Resurrection Life Center, Chicago. Born in Melrose Park, Sister Josita taught religious education at a number of archdiocese schools, including: St. Barbara, St. Mary, St. Isaac Jogues, Niles; St. Cletus, LaGrange; St. John Fisher, Divine Infant, Westchester; and Mt. Carmel, Melrose Park.
