Sr. Conleth Hager
Music teacher
Franciscan Sister Conleth Hager, 89, died June 7. Born Henrietta Hager in Kellogg, Minn., she made her vows as a Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes, Rochester, in 1937. She earned a bachelor of arts in music and a masters in music from DePaul University. She taught organ, piano and choir and ran music programs at schools in Chicago and the Midwest.

Sister Hager later became a full time representative for Winston Press, giving music demonstrations in Chicago.


Sr. Virginia Petty
Educator
Sister of Providence M. Virginia Petty, 91, died June 8 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Edgewood, Ky. Born in Kentucky, she entered the Sisters of Providence in 1935, professed her first vows in 1938 and final vows in 1944.

She taught mainly junior high for 50 years in California, Illinois, Indiana and the District of Columbia. She taught in the Chicago area at St. Andrew from 1943-44; St. Mel/Holy Ghost, 1944-45; Our Lady of Mercy, 1945-46; St. Genevieve, 1949-50; St. Joseph in Downers Grove, 1950-52; and Immaculate Conception in Norwood Park, 1952-56.

Sister Petty returned to St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind. in 1990. She is survived by her cousin, Carmelite Mother Francis of Louisville, Ky.


Fr. George Cullen
Associate Pastor
Father George Cullen, 82, died June 21 at Resurrection Medical Center. A North Side native, he graduated from Quigley Preparatory Seminary and the University of St. Mary of the Lake/ Mundelein Seminary. He was ordained in 1948.

In the archdiocese, he served at St. Bernadine Parish, Forest Park; St. Peter Parish, Skokie; St. Catherine of Genoa, St. Lucy (now St. Catherine-St. Lucy), Oak Park; St. Bride; Resurrection; Divine Savior, Norridge; Our Lady of Mercy; and Mother of God, Waukegan
Cardinal George was the main celebrant at a funeral Mass offered for Father Cullen June 25 at St. Peter Church.

Father Cullen is survived by his sister, Sister of Saint
Joseph Kathleen Edward.


Sr. Helen Pahl
Educator
Adrian Dominican Sister Helen (Alberta Marie) Pahl, 98, died June 16 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Michigan.

Born in Ohio, she devoted 43 years to teaching at schools in Michigan, New Mexico, Ohio and Chicago. She spent 21 years in Chicago, teaching at Queen of Angels from 1938-42, St. Matthew from 1942-44, St. Carthage from 1944-47, St. Clare of Montefalco from 1948-54 and St. Rita from 1954-60.
She retired in 1972 at St. Lucy Penafort Center in St. Clair Shores, Mich., where she volunteered her services in the parish and local community. She moved to the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 1995.


Fr. Joseph T. Le Voy
Former Cicero Pastor
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated July 14 for Fr. Joseph T. Le Voy, 76, at Our Lady of the Mount Church, Cicero, where he served as pastor from 1987-1998.

He attended St. John Nepomecene School at 30th and Lowe Ave., Quigley Preparatory Seminary and Mundelein Seminary. He was ordained in 1954.
He served in parishes in Evanston, Forest Park, Melrose Park, River Grove and Chicago, before being named pastor of Our Lady of the Mount. He was named pastor emeritus in 1998.

A craftsman, he built Victorian doll houses for fund-raisers.
