St. Terrence Church
4300 W. 119th Place, Alsip
The only Catholic Church in Alsip was dedicated in 1971. Built in a contemporary style with a tall carillon, the circular brick edifice rises dramatically toward the sanctuary. Architects James R. Cronin & Assoc. and builders Henry Brothers received an award for design and excellence in the use of masonry.
There are artistic touches that enhance the interior a bas relief over the altar of a stylized Risen Christ, colorful slab glass windows and carved wood statuary including the Blessed Mother and St. Terrence, first-century Roman martyr, done by Dominican artist Father Angelico R. Zarlenga.
Parishioners know each other here, and are hard-working and generous, as reflected in a recent Sharing Christs Gifts drive where they exceeded their goal by 50 percent. CCD flourishes, theres a varied music ministry for all ages, a SPRED program, food pantry, job search council, and active parish groups for men and women.
