Parish Pride
St. Edward Church St. Edward Church
4350 W. Sunnyside Ave.

Bright and warm—words to describe the elegant interior of St. Edward’s rosy brick church, designed by McCarthy, Smith and Eppig and dedicated in 1940.

Stained glass windows of Scripture scenes allow plenty of sunlight to reflect off the creamy walls of the nave, against a dark lattice wood beam ceiling. Fine wood accents abound in the sanctuary, side altars, wainscoting, doors, pews and confessionals. An unusual rose window in the choir loft presents an array of musical devices—lutes, lyres and manuscripts—within its colorful panes.

Originally founded for Poles and other Euro-Americans, today’s mix of neighbors is more diverse. It includes people from Central and South America, Mexico and Asia making the parish their home, along with active second-generation parishioners.

Dominican Sisters of Springfield have served parish families faithfully in the school since 1910 and their lasting witness is like a golden thread winding through each household.
