Our Lady of the New Millennium, the 33-foot-tall, 8,000-pound stainless steel sculpture of the Madonna, has been a fixture at parishes of the Archdiocese of Chicago for more than three years.

The statue, the gift of the late Carl Demma, draws area Catholics to Mary and inspires the faithful to prayer. His wife, Francine, continues to make the popular statue available to parishes.

Our Lady of the New Millennium will be taken off “tour” between June 2-8 for a general cleaning and polishing to remove the dirt and grime that has collected over the past years. Then it’s back on display.

The statue will be on display May 12-25 at St. Lambert Parish, 8148 N. Karlov Ave., Skokie. During its stay, various parish organizations and ethnic groups will sponsor prayer services each evening, and the rosary will be recited after the 8:10 a.m. Mass on weekdays.

On May 17, following a 7 p.m. Mass, there will be an all-night eucharistic vigil in the church, concluding with benediction at 6:30 a.m. on May 18. On the feast of Pentecost, May 19, there will be a procession to the statue following the noon Mass.

On May 26, the statue will move to St. Denis, 8301 S. St. Louis Ave., and remain there through June 2.

The statue will not be on display June 2-8, and then will be at St. Theresa, Palatine, June 9-23, and Transfiguration, Wauconda, June 23-July 7.
