Sr. Colleen Moran

taught at St. Sabina School

Dominican Sister Colleen (Marie Seumas) Moran, 54, died April 3 in Minneapolis. A teacher and principal for 35 years, she taught at St. Sabina School 1970-77.

Sr. Giuseppe Zammuto

Taught in Chicago, Northfield

Dominican Sister Giuseppe (Antoinette) Zammuto, 68, died April 6 in Rockford where she was receptionist at St. Anthony Medical Center. A former teacher, she taught in Chicago at St. Sabina, 1960-63, and in Northfield at St. Philip the Apostle, 1963-65.

Sr. Monica Marie Pyzik

Taught in Chicago

Resurrection Sister Monica Marie Pyzik, 95, died April 12 at Queen of the Resurrection House of Prayer.

She taught in Chicago at St. Casimir and St. Mary of the Angels schools and Resurrection High School. Before retiring, she served as a patient visitor at Resurrection Hospital.

Sr. Audrey Hall

taught in archdiocese

A funeral Mass for Daughter of St. Mary of Providence Sister Audrey Hall was offered April 16 at Queen of Peace Retirement Center, Lake Zurich. Sister Audrey, 74, died there April 13.

Born in Maywood, she joined the community in 1952 and worked with the developmentally disabled at St. Mary of Providence School and St. Rose Day Center in Chicago and Mount St. Joseph in Lake Zurich.

Surviving are a sister, Virginia; a brother, Leonard; and several nieces and nephews.

Sr. Leocadia Gnidica

Taught in Chicago, Waukegan

Benedictine Sister Leocadia Gnidica, 87, died April 13. She taught in Chicago at St. George School and St. Scholastica Academy and in Waukegan at Mother of God School. She often served as parish sacristan and convent cook in addition to teaching.

Fr. Kenny Lynch

Retired chaplain, pastor

Passionist Father Kenny Lynch, 91, died April 16 at Resurrection Life Center, Chicago. Ordained in 1937, Father Lynch served as a chaplain with the 3rd Armored Division during World War II, earning a Silver Star for heroism. He returned to the military from 1951 to 1966.

He also served as a pastor, retreat director and teacher in Ohio, Kentucky and Alabama.

Sr. Mary Alice Klepek

Teacher, principal

Franciscan Sister Mary Alice (Stella) Klepek, 95, died April 16 at the motherhouse of the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago, Lemont. She had taught and was principal at schools in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana.

In Chicago, she was assigned to St. Florian, St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr and Five Holy Martyrs schools. After 15 years of teaching at St. Stanislaus, she remained at the convent for another nine years and helped with domestic tasks. Even after retiring to the motherhouse at the age of 84, she continued to sew and bake.

Sr. Mary Angelica Seidl

Bookkeeper, superior

Franciscan Sister Mary Angelica (Emily) Seidl, 90, died April 18 at the motherhouse of the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago, Lemont. A Chicago native, she grew up hearing stories about the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago from her grandmother who had belonged to the same sewing club as their foundress, Josephine Dudzik. She joined the community from St. Hyacinth Parish in 1933.

Her first assignment was to St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr School for three years. After that, she was assigned to bookkeeping and office work. She was bookkeeper at the motherhouse for seven years and at St. Joseph Home in Chicago for 25 years.

Other assignments included Boys Town, Neb., where she also served as superior. Her last assignment was to Mother Theresa Home, Lemont, for 17 years.

Sr. Clarellen McGinley

Taught at St. Bartholomew

Dominican Sister Clarellen McGinley, 62, died April 19 at the motherhouse of the Dominicans of St. Catharine, Ky. A member of the community for 42 years, she taught at St. Bartholomew School in Chicago and in Kentucky.

She also worked for the Housing Relocation Department for the City of Louisville.

Terrence A. Clemmons

Parish business manager

A funeral Mass for Terrence A. Clemmons was offered April 27 at St. Barnabas Church with Father Denis Condon as principal celebrant. Mr. Clemmons, 55, died April 20 after suffering a brain hemorrhage.

Born in Chicago, he grew up in St. Barnabas Parish. He was serving as business manager for Christ the King Parish, Chicago, and Incarnation Parish, Palos Heights.

Surviving are his wife, Becky, who is business manager for St. Edmund Parish, Oak Park; three sons, James, Thomas and Timothy; three brothers, James, Rod and Mark; and nieces and nephews.

Sr. Miriam Murphy

Teacher, researcher

Sister of Notre Dame de Namur Miriam Murphy, 92, died April 23 following a long illness. She had taught in Chicago at Notre Dame High School in three assignments: 1937-45, 1949-53 and 1957-61.

Sister Miriam taught at several universities and was at Princeton University from 1976 to 1994 doing research, writing and leading seminars on prayer and spiritual maturity at the Center for Continuing Education at Princeton Theological Seminary. She also was co-founder with George Gallup Jr. of the Princeton Religion Research Center.

Norbert V. Madden

Missions office volunteer

A funeral Mass for Norbert V. Madden, a longtime volunteer with the archdiocesan Missions Office, was offered April 27 at St. Gertrude Church. Mr. Madden, 82, died April 24.

Concelebrants of the Mass were Father Robert Festle and Father William O’Brien, former missions directors, and Father John Grace, current co-director. Sister Maria Burke, co-director, also participated.

A graduate of DePaul University, Mr. Madden was retired from the Peoples Gas Company. After his retirement, he visited the Missions Office and asked if they could use a volunteer. According to the missions staff, Mr. Madden rarely missed a day for the next 25 years.

He also served as an usher at St. Veronica Parish, now closed, and Resurrection Parish, where he was a parishioner.
