An air of rebirth permeates this parish that marked its centennial in 1994. The landmark church, designed by Egan & Prindiville in 1913 and then enlarged from architect Joe W. McCarthys blueprints in 1932, is proudly poised for the future. With its distinctive twin towers, this North Italian Renaissance style church in reddish-brown brick begins with a huge rose window over its three-door entranceway. A wealth of stained glass windows of heroic size line both sides of the near-150-foot-long nave and flank its sanctuary. The Sacred Heart, Blessed Mother, a Nativity (above) and saints from Andrew to Rita of Cascia, Isaac Jogues, Rose of Lima and many others stand ready to edify.
Part of the parishs new thrust means reaching out to young married couples moving into this area adjacent to Wrigleyville and convenient to both the Brown and Red L Lines. The church will foster Bring Your Baby to Church Sundays, and encourages Mass as a family. Alongside todays gentrification runs a great history of longtime parishioners whose grandchildren now attend St. Andrew School and play in legendary St. Andrews Gym.
