Sessions for non-practicing Catholics
Evanston’s four Catholic communities will sponsor two discussion sessions with non-practicing Catholics from 7-9 p.m. May 1 and May 8 at Sheil Catholic Center, 2110 Sheridan Road, on the Northwestern University campus. The discussions, planned by St. Athanasius, St. Mary and St. Nicholas parishes and Sheil Catholic Center, are free and open to all.

Mexican orphans to perform in Chicago
A group of 23 orphans from the Nuestra Pequeños Hermanos home in Miacatlan, Mexico, will perform regional dances and songs at a “Fiesta Grande” May 4 at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare. The evening also includes dinner and a silent auction. The 12- to 18-year-old performers, all members of Ballet Folklorico and Estudiantina musicians, will also perform at other venues in the Chicago area from April 27 to May 7. All proceeds will help support theorphanage, home to more than 1,000 children. For information, call (847) 222-0991.

Amate House honors priest, volunteers
Amate House, the young adult volunteer program for the Archdiocese of Chicago, will hold its annual Amate Magic annual fundraising event May 4 at the Drake Hotel. The event will honor the 28 young adulys who have dedicated the past year to volunteer service. Father Peter Bowman, a longtime pastor and administrator, willr eceive the Bernardin Medal for his contributions to the church and city. Michael McGovern of Chicago Uptown Ministry will receive the Founders Award, which each year goes to an Amate House alum who has continued in a life of service to others. St. Henry Parish celebrates 150 years
Cardinal George will celebrate a Mass of thanksgiving at 3:30 p.m. May 6 St. Henry Church, 6335 N. Hoyne. The parish is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its founding. Pastor Father Ed Harasim and pastor emeritus Father Bernard White will join the cardinal on the altar. The mass will be fllowed by a buffet supper in the parish Social Center.
