Connecting Our Cultures
In a musical demonstration of diversity, the Lira Singers, who
specialize in Polish music, and the NGOMA Group of African-American
singers performed together Feb. 11 at St. Mary of the Woods Parish
on Chicago's Northwest Side. The joint concert celebrated both
Black History Month and the February birthday of the Polish American
Revolutionary war hero Thaddeus Kosciuszko. The Lira group has
a long history of such cross-cultural events, including a recent
concert in conjunction with Mexican-American performers.
