Parish Pride
St. Matthew ChurchSt. Matthew Church
1001 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg

There’s an openness at St. Matthew’s. It isn’t just because the parish buildings stand adjacent to a 400-acre nature preserve. Or that clear glass panels behind the altar in its modern worship space, frame a towering spruce, and that deer sometimes pause to enjoy the choir music. But there is a special openness here to the diversity of parishioners from its founding families, to newcomers from the Philippines, South America and elsewhere. There is a freedom of culture and spiritual expression in the various traditions evolving in parish life—a Eucharistic chapel, shrines to St. Peregine and Our Lady of Luhan, an outdoor Lourdes grotto, summertime’s Faith Festival and an outpouring of love for their sharing parish. As St. Matthew closes its 25th anniversary year with a 12:15 p.m. Mass March 25, it will characteristically invite everyone back for a big friendly Italian feast.
