This ones for you, Jim
If youre reading this on our Web site www.catholicnewworld.comitll
be easier for you. If youre reading it on our print edition,
you may have to work a little.
But in these days of cross-platform media (thats when newspapers
have to touch several technological bases to successfully communicate),
theres a lot of going back and forth trying to keep the subscribers
happy and the Web-surfers satisfied. Well, we try.
That's why our recently redesigned Web site doesnt have everything
the newspaper offers, and why there may be information available
at the click of a mouse that you dont get from the printed page.
There is for instance, a fuller version of this weeks The Interview
feature on the Web, giving surfers a broader picture of pro-life
activist Joe Scheidler than we could in our more limited print
pages.
Watch for more cross-platform cooperation in the future, as we
become comfortable with our technical abilities and our physical
limitations. Pretty soon, you might need bothjust like today
you need both a parish bulletin and The Catholic New World to
keep up with the news.
All this started with an e-mail I received the other day. A parent,
Jim S., wrote that his 12-year-old daughter and a friend wanted
to see a movie. Well, we all know some movies are worth seeing,
and others
well, theyre not worth much of anything.
So he clicked onto our Web site (www.catholicnewworld.com) looking
for guidance. But he didnt find it.
Our paper edition offers regular movie ratings from the National
Conference of Catholic Bishops to help guide parents in their
entertainment choices. But though that information is on our Web
site, its not easy to find, an oversight well correct as soon
as possible.
What we should be offering, of course, is a direct link to the
NCCB Web site where such ratings can be perused at even greater
depth. So, Jim S.and other readers who want to knowthis one
is for you: That Web address is www.nccbuscc.org. Oh, you could
reach it through our Web site, but it would mean paging through
several menus first. Well try to simplify the process.
In the meantime, well make sure that we carry that information
in The Catholic New Worldthe printed onetoo.

Editor and General Manager
